The Safest Way of Testing Minimum Trip Voltage
To ensure that circuit breaker's operation is within specification under the most rigorous conditions placed on its tripping ability, circuit breaker trip coils are specified to work with a minimum tripping voltage much below the nominal battery voltage.
The minimum trip voltage test is described in several international and national standards. Traditionally, this test was performed by tapping into the main tripping battery. However, this method should not be utilized as it presents a considerable risk to testing personnel, battery, and the breaker being tested.
